What the solution includes

Six blocks of work. Half of them happen before the move, and they decide whether it goes smoothly.

Discuss the timeline

Survey of the new site

We check what the premises already have: cable routes, power, space for a server room and which providers are connected to the building.

Network and cabling

Design and installation of the cabling to match the workstation layout, with spare ports for future growth.

Internet and telephony

Provider orders placed with time to spare, a backup link, number porting and telephony setup.

Moving the servers

A backup before dismantling, transport, rack mounting and start-up in an agreed window, usually at the weekend.

Workstations

Labelling the hardware as it is packed, placing it to the plan, connecting and testing every workstation before people arrive.

Low-voltage systems

Video surveillance and access control at the new site: designed together with the network, not after the refurbishment.

A week-by-week schedule

We count backwards from the moving date. The most common mistake is leaving the provider order until the final week.

01

A month before

A site survey, a workstation layout, provider orders and a specification of materials and equipment.

02

Two weeks before

Cabling and electrical installation, mounting the cabinet, connecting and testing the links before the furniture arrives.

03

The moving weekend

A data backup, dismantling and transporting the servers, bringing them up at the new site, and placing and connecting the hardware.

04

The first working day

An engineer on site all day: small things like a printer or access to a folder are sorted out on the spot in minutes.

The provider is the main risk to the schedule. Connecting a new link in a business centre takes two to four weeks, and in a standalone building it can take longer. So we place the order right after the lease is signed, before the refurbishment starts.

Frequently asked questions

With proper planning, none during working hours. Servers are moved at the weekend, the network at the new site is ready in advance and the workstations are connected on Saturday and Sunday. Full downtime only happens when a move is done on weekdays without preparing the site.

Workstations, yes, if they are labelled as they are packed. Servers and network hardware are better left to engineers: they must be removed correctly, the wiring recorded and a backup made before shutdown. Dealing with a disk broken in transit on Monday morning is expensive.

This happens often. We build slack into the schedule and can split the work: first we bring up the part of the premises where refurbishment is finished and move people there in waves. It is worse when we find out two days before the move.

A move is a good moment to reconsider: if there is no server room at the new site, renting capacity may be cheaper than fitting out a room with air conditioning and a UPS. We cost both options during the site survey.

We will plan the IT side of the move

Give us the moving date and the address of the new site. We will come for a survey, draw up a week-by-week schedule and prepare a quote.
