What is included

We work from the floor plan and the seating layout. Without them the calculation is approximate and the rework expensive.

Discuss the scope

Design

Cable routes, socket positions, and calculation of lengths and materials from the plan.

Approvals

Work in leased premises requires the written consent of the owner.

Cable runs

Trunking, trays and conduit, above a suspended ceiling or in trunking along the walls.

Installation

Sockets at the workstations, patch panels in the cabinet and labelling at both ends.

Testing

Every line tested with an instrument and a certificate, not judged by eye.

Documentation

A diagram with port numbers and the mapping of sockets to the patch panel.

How the work runs

A 50-workstation office is installed in a week. Design and approvals take about the same.

01

Survey

A site visit, measurements and assessment of possible routes and cabinet locations.

02

Design

The diagram, the specification and the quote, agreed before materials are ordered.

03

Installation

Cable runs, mounting and termination, ideally before the furniture arrives.

04

Handover

The line test certificate, the diagram and the labelling.

Two ports per workstation is the norm, not excess. The second is for a phone, a printer, a second computer, or simply for when the first one fails. Adding a port after installation costs more than laying it at the start, because by then the trunking is closed and the furniture is in.

Frequently asked questions

For an office, category 5e is enough: it gives a gigabit and costs less. Category 6 makes sense for long runs, plans for 10 gigabit and in server rooms. The difference in installation cost is small, so new sites often use category 6.

For laptops and phones, yes. For fixed workstations, servers, cameras and printers a cable is more reliable and faster. Doing away with cabling entirely looks like a saving right up to the first wave of complaints about connectivity.

Absolutely. It confirms the line really meets its category and length rather than merely responding to a ping. If problems appear a year later, that document is the only way to tell whether the cable is at fault.

We will design and install your network

Send us the floor plan and the number of workstations. We will come for a survey and prepare a design with a quote.
