What is included

Two thirds of the project is preparation and verification, and only one third is the migration itself.

Discuss the scope

Inventory

A complete list of the indexed pages. That is the starting point for the redirect map.

Content migration

Pages, products, images and documents with the section structure preserved.

Address map

A mapping of old addresses to new ones. Every page has to lead somewhere.

Redirects

Page by page, with the correct response code. A blanket redirect to the home page loses everything.

Verification

Reconciling volumes, broken links, images, forms, speed.

Observation

Monitoring indexing and positions during the first weeks, with prompt fixes for what turns up.

How the work runs

Three to six weeks depending on the volume. The switch is done on a quiet day, not on a Friday evening.

01

Audit of the old site

What we migrate, what we discard, which addresses matter. We export the list of indexed pages.

02

Building the new one

Development at a test address closed to indexing.

03

Migration and reconciliation

Data migration, the redirect map, a full check.

04

Switching over

Changing the domain, submitting the new sitemap, watching the indexing.

The test version must be closed to indexing, and on the live site that block has to be removed. A forgotten indexing block after the switch is the reason sites disappear from search entirely for weeks. It is checked with a single line and it costs a great deal.

Frequently asked questions

With a careful migration the dip is usually small and recovers within one to two months. The ones who lose are those who change addresses without redirects or set a blanket redirect to the home page. We build a page by page map, and that is the main insurance.

Technically yes, but it is usually not the best choice. If the design is carried over one to one, it is worth asking why the platform is being changed at all. More often a migration is combined with an interface refresh.

Keep it inactive along with its database for at least a few months. It is insurance: if it turns out that some section did not migrate, there will be somewhere to take it from. Switching it off straight away is unwise.

We will migrate the site without losses

Tell us what the site is and where we are moving it. We start by exporting the indexed pages, which is the basis of a safe move.
