What is included

We calculate two numbers: how much power is needed, and how many minutes the equipment has to hold out before a planned shutdown.

Discuss the scope

Power calculation

Total consumption with headroom. Batteries age, and after three years the runtime is noticeably shorter than the calculated one.

Choosing the device

Line interactive for network equipment, double conversion for servers.

Automatic shutdown

Configuring a correct shutdown of servers when the batteries run down. Without it half the point is lost.

Monitoring

Notifications about switching to battery, about the state of the unit and about the need for replacement.

Cooling

Server room air conditioning calculated from the heat output with redundancy.

Maintenance

Scheduled battery replacement and testing under load.

How the work runs

Selection and installation take a week or two. Air conditioning depends on how ready the room is.

01

Measurements

We calculate consumption and heat output from the data sheets and from actual readings.

02

Selection

The device, its power, the runtime, whether external batteries are needed.

03

Installation

Mounting, connection, configuration of automatic server shutdown.

04

Procedure

A schedule of checks and battery replacement, notification settings.

An uninterruptible power supply without automatic shutdown configured only protects against brief flickers. During a long outage the batteries run down and the server switches off just as harshly as it would without one. Configuring a correct shutdown takes half an hour and changes the point of the whole purchase.

Frequently asked questions

Ten to fifteen minutes is enough for a correct server shutdown. More is needed if outages are frequent and short or if work has to continue. Every extra minute raises the cost noticeably, so configuring automatic shutdown beats buying an hour of batteries.

The typical service life is three to five years, but it depends on temperature: in a hot room batteries degrade faster. The state should be checked annually rather than waiting for a failure: discovering flat batteries during an outage is the worst case.

Preferably. If the server keeps running while the switch and the router have gone off, there is little benefit. A small separate unit for the network is inexpensive and keeps connectivity alive until the shutdown procedure finishes.

We will size the power for the server room

Send us the list of equipment. We will calculate the power and the runtime and propose a solution including cooling.
