Sizing the resources
Processor, memory and disk for the specific task, without paying for headroom you will never use.
We are responsible not only for the rental but for what runs on the server: the system, the configuration, the updates and the backups.
Processor, memory and disk for the specific task, without paying for headroom you will never use.
Windows or Linux with basic security configured from the start rather than later.
Web server, database and application, depending on what will run.
Snapshots and data copies taken off the server itself.
Availability, load and disk space, with alerts.
Updates, incident handling and configuration changes as you grow.
The server is up within an hour. Configuring the environment takes from a few hours to a day.
What will run and what load is expected. The resources follow from that.
Server, operating system, basic hardening and key-based access instead of passwords.
The environment for the task, plus data migration if you are moving.
Credentials, documentation, configured backups and monitoring.
A virtual server is not secure by default. The moment it is created it is reachable from the internet and automated scanners find it within hours. Changing the access port, key-based login and a firewall are configured in the first hour, not when there is time.
In practice the terms are used interchangeably. Formally the difference lies in the virtualisation type and how firmly resources are allocated. It matters more to look at the specifics of the plan: guaranteed cores, disk type and whether the host is oversubscribed.
A corporate site with modest traffic manages on two cores and four gigabytes of memory. An online store on 1C-Bitrix needs four cores and eight gigabytes upwards. A precise figure comes from visitor numbers and catalogue size.
You are, regardless of the provider. The provider guarantees the availability of the infrastructure but not the survival of your data if it is deleted or encrypted. That is why backups off the server are essential, and we configure them straight away.
Tell us what has to run and what load to expect. We will size the resources and deploy it with configuration and backups.
