On cheap hosting the exchange with 1C most often breaks because of the script execution time limit. A large catalogue export simply does not finish and fails halfway every time. The cure is tuning the environment, not rewriting the exchange.

Roughly four cores and eight gigabytes of memory for a catalogue of up to a few thousand items with moderate traffic. The 1C exchange needs extra headroom because it comes in spikes.
