A cloud copy protects against ransomware only with the right permissions. If the backup system connects with a key that can delete objects, the malware will delete them along with everything else. The key must have write but not delete rights, and the storage itself must be in immutable mode.

Frequently asked questions

Providers keep objects in several copies and the probability of data loss is extremely low. Losing access through lost keys or an unpaid invoice is far more likely, so the organisational side matters as much as the technical one.

Billing is by actual volume and by operations. For a small company backups usually come to a modest monthly amount. The main risk of overspending is keeping every copy forever, so deletion rules are configured for older ones.
