Antivirus alone does not save you from ransomware. It catches what is known, while a targeted attack is prepared for a specific victim. What works is the combination: antivirus plus restricted rights, plus a closed software environment, plus protected backups.

Frequently asked questions

For home use it is, for an organisation it is not. The problem is not detection but the absence of control: you do not know on how many machines it is actually running and up to date. On top of that there are licence limits, since free versions are usually not permitted for commercial use.

That is almost always a question of exclusions. Database files, the 1C server directories and the temporary folders have to be excluded from real time scanning as the vendor recommends. The configuration takes half an hour and removes the problem.

They do, but with different policies. On a file server on access scanning matters, on a database server only scheduled scanning with exclusions. Identical settings for every machine is a typical mistake.
