What the solution includes

Five blocks. Three about the office and the designers, two about the temporary sites.

Discuss the scope

CAD workstations

Configurations matched to the design software: processor, memory and graphics card are chosen for the actual models used, not from a generic price list.

Capacity for calculations

Heavy calculations and rendering are moved to a server so a designer machine is not tied up for hours.

Documentation archive

One project repository with versioning and per-site permissions, instead of folders on local drives and USB sticks.

Connectivity on site

A quick setup in the site cabin: mobile internet with a signal booster, Wi-Fi across the site and, for long projects, a wired link.

Access from the site

The site manager opens the current version of the drawing on a tablet instead of phoning the office to check a paper copy.

Site infrastructure

A site lives from a few months to a few years, so the equipment must be quick to deploy and to pack up.

Working with drawings over a weak link is the main complaint from designers. Opening heavy files directly over the network is slow and risky: a dropout while saving corrupts the file. The right approach is working on the server through a terminal session, where only the image travels over the link.

Frequently asked questions

We install a mobile router with an external antenna and a booster, which is enough for document workflow, email and access to the archive. If the site is long-running with many people, we place a provider order for a wired link in parallel and keep the mobile one as a backup.

Buying a powerful machine for everyone is expensive if heavy calculations run once a week. It is usually better to give designers mid-range configurations and move the calculations to one shared server. We cost both options during selection.

One repository with versioning and permissions instead of copies on local drives. Then the site opens the same file as the office, and older versions remain available as history. This is as much an organisational task as a technical one, so along with the repository we write the procedure.

So for sites we recommend inexpensive standard laptops that are quick to replace, with data stored anywhere but on the device itself. Plus record keeping: every unit has a named owner, and when the site closes the hardware is returned against a list and the data wiped.

We will review your setup

Tell us how many sites are in progress and which applications your designers use. We will propose a setup for the office and for the sites.
